Dr Amy Howe BVSc
Veterinarian
Dr Amy Howe joined our practice in 2022 after extensive prior experience in both small animal private practice in Australia and the United Kingdom, emergency and critical care, as well as shelter medicine through the RSPCA and Animal Welfare League.
Dr Amy has diverse veterinary skills ranging from soft tissue surgery, dentistry as well as small animal medicine. She has completed numerous additional continuing education hours of study in dentistry, anaesthesia, clinical pathology and emergency medicine, which have made her into a versatile and highly valued veterinary team member. Amy is kind-hearted, approachable and always quick to offer a helping hand to our clients, patients and colleagues.
Amy knew from a very young age that she wanted to study to be a veterinarian. She grew up with dogs, including a hyperactive Jack Russell Terrier, a lovely Labrador and numerous fish. Often, she would visit family in South Africa, where she was born, and had the privilege of seeing the magnificent wildlife in the Kruger National Park. It was these encounters that made Amy want to one day work with animals and hopes to impart that same passion onto her young son, Will.
Amy has lived in Australia since she was 5-months old and attended Pymble Ladies’ College on the North Shore from kindergarten through to high school, receiving the prestigious Premier’s Award in 2006 for All-Round Excellence. She went on to study a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney, graduating in 2011.
With a particular interest in small animal dentistry, Dr Amy has sought extra training in dental surgery over her career and pursues it as one of her areas of interest. Amy enjoys being an advocate for our pet’s teeth, and loves seeing them become happier animals when they have a pain-free healthy mouth!
Currently, Amy owns two pets, Zoe the Spoodle and Garry the Siamese Fighting Fish. Garry enjoys 10 gallons of water to himself, has the appetite of a Labrador and is often found sleeping the day away in his tank! Amy has owned Zoe since she was an 8-week-old puppy. When she was at her first job as a new graduate, Zoe was brought into the clinic by her breeder with a congenital heart abnormality that required surgery. Amy took her on, fixed her heart, and the rest is history! Zoe can be slightly neurotic, but enjoys staying in the comfort of her home, however does not like the postal delivery people!
